Frequently asked questions
the most Is your vehicle having engine troubles?
We will look at the fundamental components-fuel mix, compression, timing belt, head gasket, and spark plugs as well as the minor details that might create a problem.
Is your clutch burning up?
If you haven’t mastered the tricky business of friction, we’ll fix your clutch and help you understand how you can shift from one position to the next without making your engine stall and your passengers get whiplash.
Does Servicing My Car with an Independent Mechanic Void My Warranty?
The law states that any licensed mechanic, fitting & using high-quality parts according to the manufacturers’ specifications will maintain your new car warranty.
How Often Should I Service My Car?
This really comes down to the type of car that you have.
Not all cars are the same, so always go by your vehicle’s manual.
However, we’d recommend a minimum of once a year, despite how often you may or may not drive your car.
Leaving it any longer than this could mean a simple fix becoming a more complex and expensive fix if something is left unchecked for too long.
I Don’t Drive all That Often. Why Do I Need to Service my Car?
There are many things in your vehicle that break down naturally over time, such as your oil and filters.
Getting these replaced once a year will ensure your vehicle is ready to be driven whenever you need it.
Modern engines are extremely complex and tricky to repair, so a yearly service will prove a worthy investment in reliability, and save you money in the long run.
How Do I Know When My Brakes Need Replacing?
Brakes are one of those things people consistently get overcharged on.
There are many workshops that replace brakes too soon.
On most modern cars, there is a dash light that indicates when your brake pads need replacing. But your mechanic should be checking your brakes every time you have a service, so it is important to make sure you are having regular car services.
On older cars, the pads will emit a high-pitched squeal. Any time before that, your brakes are probably fine.
If you are unsure you can always call us and we can check them for you.
How Often Should I Check My Oil?
For most cars, we recommend checking your engine oil every couple of months.
To check your oil, use the dipstick, wipe it clean and push it back in to measure the level.
If it’s looking low, top it up with the correct grade of oil.
But if you are getting your car serviced regularly this should not be a problem.
Also a lot of modern cars will tell you when you need to check your oil as a dashboard light near the speedo.
What Happens If I Miss a Service?
Don’t worry! Just like the workout you missed, or the cheat day meal you had, we can get you back on track and your car back into a healthy cycle.
While missing a service isn’t ideal, it isnt the end of the world.
The best thing you can do is to address the elephant in the room and get your service done as soon as possible.
The longer you leave it, the more likely you are to encounter problems with your car down the line.
What Pressure Should My Tyres be at?
Your tyres should have a PSI level written on them. If it isnt on there, then sometimes there is a sticker on the inside panel of your door, which can give you this information.
As a side note, keeping the tyres at the right pressure will ensure your vehicle drives as well as it can and save you fuel.
As a general rule of thumb, we’d recommend a pressure of 30-32 PSI for daily road use.
Does the Quality of Parts Really Matter?
Absolutely! Like anything you buy, if you buy cheap it usually doesn’t last as long.
Many workshops offset the cost of providing cheaper services by using low-quality parts that are far inferior to what you’d get from either the manufacturer or a more renowned mechanic.
Ensuring you’re using high-quality filters, oil, sensors, and brakes will ensure that not only your car run as reliably as possible in the long run, but in some cases, it will make your driving experience far more pleasant and safer.
